A government official told the Economic Times, “Starlink’s responses to our questions appear satisfactory…After completion of security checks, the company will be granted a Global Mobile Personal Communications License by the Government of Satellite Services (GMPCS) to provide services.” Will be given.”

According to the report of Economics Times, Elon Musk’s Starlink is being security tested in India. Starlink can be given a license only after the trials are completely successful. This is also necessary for the security of India’s sensitive information. After getting the license, it can provide satellite broadband, voice, and messaging services to people and organizations in India.
For those who don’t know, Elon Musk is attempting to license in India for the second time. So that it can enter the satellite communications (satcom) market of India. Earlier, Musk had applied for a license from the Government of India to provide satellite-based services in 2022. But at that time his license was canceled in India.
At the time of the license application, the Government of India had requested Stirlink to provide them with a clear response regarding data storage and transfer per their parameters. On this, Stirlink had to say that its group is global, and Stirlink will follow international standards for data transfer and storage as a global standard. This position was therefore rejected by Indian authorities, as it insisted on compliance with local data storage rules.
Stirlink, which was earlier complying with the criteria, has now agreed to comply with Indian regulations regarding data storage to obtain the Indian license. Another official was quoted by the Economics Times as saying, “The company has now agreed to comply. Has gone.”
After Elon Musk’s Starlink gets approval from the Indian government, it will become the third company in India. Earlier, only Bharti Airtel’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio’s Satcom were in this area. After receiving the license, it will become the third company to get a GMPCS license.
Earlier this October, Jeff Bezos’s Amazon also applied for a license from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). At present the government will still consider it.
To start satellite services in India, approval will also have to be taken from the National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) along with the Government of India. Which acts as an autonomous space regulator for private and government players.
After this, companies will have to wait for spectrum allocation by DoT. Currently, the government is awaiting recommendations from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on the allocation of Satcom spectrum in the country, an official told The Economic Times. This is not possible until a new chairman is appointed for TRAI.
